Clients Rave About Reiki Massage

Reiki is a unique form of massage that often does not include hands-on contact between practitioner and client. It focuses on the energy field that surrounds and individual’s body. While researchers say that Reiki is not a practice that shows measurable benefits, or that studies on the topic have been poorly designed and offer mixed results, those who have had Reiki treatments report that they experience a variety of benefits; some of these are physical benefits, others are psychological. The practice of Reiki is often considered a healing of the whole body, not just a specific area.

According to Reiki.org, during a treatment, energy flows from the practitioners to the client, through the practitioner’s hands, and often, it’s not just the client that benefits: sometimes the Reiki practitioner completes a session feeling more relaxed and uplifted as well.

At the Manitou Wellness Center for Alternative Medicine and Education, individuals have reported to practitioners that Reiki has relieved their pain and discomfort from a variety of medical conditions and stress issues.  An article on the “U.S. News and World Report” web site, published on Nov. 14, 2014, shows that a cancer patient found that regular Reiki massage helped to “quiet her mind.” She continues these treatments, although she is now cancer free.

Benefits of regular Reiki massage treatments

What happens after a session depends on the individual, since everyone’s body is different and reacts differently to massage practices. For many individuals, the following benefits are common:

  1. Reiki promotes a sense of inner peace, quieting the mind and balancing the emotions. Many patients report that they have greater mental clarity after a Reiki massage session.
  2. Individuals may recover more quickly from surgery or medical conditions while participating in Reiki treatments. Some of those conditions include arthritis and sciatica, even migraines. It may also help to lessen the severity of asthma, chronic fatigue and menopausal symptoms. It also helps with symptoms of asthma, chronic fatigue, menopausal symptoms, and insomnia.
  3. Individuals may feel less depression, anxiety and stress. This goes along with the first point, and how individuals often feel more relaxed after a Reiki session.  Laying quietly on table while a Reiki practitioner works to remove the energy blocks throughout the body can have a refreshing effect. Also, individuals may find that they are more refreshed after a Reiki treatment because they may fall asleep during the session.
  4. Individuals may sleep better after a Reiki treatment. This may be because they are calmer and more relaxed, or, for some, it may be that they feel more tired following their session, which could be because of the body’s natural healing processes.
  5. Individuals may experience increased self-awareness. Often, Reiki is a practice that allows a person to relax and reflect on what they are feeling and experiencing during the session.  In the hours and days after a treatment, the individuals may find that they’re more in tune with their bodies and notice when things are happening, how they feel as they move or do certain things, that they didn’t notice before.
